100 Thieves' Bank Heist: Is It Worth Playing?

Ever wanted to play a game where you rob a bank, but it’s created by an esports organization? Now you can with 100 Thieves’ Bank Heist.
Earlier today, 100 Thieves launched a new game mode on Fortnite’s UEFN platform called Bank Heist. Teams must work together to retrieve a coveted payload and then extract the loot via helicopter in an intense and adrenaline-fueled combat experience.
100 Thieves Chief Product Officer Pete Hawley said that a small development team worked with the creators on 100 Thieves’ roster — including Rachell “Valkyrae” Hoffstetter and Jack “CouRage” Dunlop — to build a multiplayer extraction game “in just a few weeks.”
He said: “We’re excited to launch this game, support this platform, and continue to innovate on how great games are developed.”
This won’t be the only game 100 Thieves develops. According to President and COO John Robinson, there will be additional Fortnite game islands in just a few months.
“The days of needing hundreds of developers and spending $100 million on development of a new game are over,” Robinson said in a press release. “Epic Games has given non-traditional game developers like 100 Thieves an amazing toolset to build something fun in weeks, not years. Building with UEFN was an easy and welcome decision, given our love for Fortnite and experience using Unreal Engine.”
How Bank Heist Works
Bank Heist is a simple 3v3 multiplayer mode that features three tasks:
- Drill the vault
- Escort the payload
- Bring the cash to the chopper
The attacking trio has three minutes to complete each task. Defenders must try to hold them back from completing the tasks. The first team to win two of the three rounds is declared the winner.

100 Thieves Bank Heist Game Review
Bank Heist is a simple game with a straightforward objective — you either get the money and run or defend the money. But 100 Thieves’ small group of developers did add a bit of flair to the game that gives it more playability.
First, there are four different classes to choose from — Muscle, Tank, Grenadier, and Sniper. Each of them has a different loadout and playstyle. This allows for a bit more dynamic gameplay as teams figure out successful team comps and subsequent strategies.
There are also some elements of different games you may be familiar with. For example, once an attacking team gets access to the vault and takes the money, you’ll have to escort the payload to its destination — very much like Overwatch 2. Still, this is a pretty fun mashup of genres that gives you a good variety of gameplay during each short match.
And that’s the thing — the matches are short. You only have a few minutes for each stage. This makes the gameplay pretty fast and inspires both teams to be pretty aggressive. There’s a lot of pulse-pounding action in Bank Heist and not a lot of room for communication lapses.
Still, it was quite noticeable after a few games that Bank Heist favors the attacking side. There’s a lot of time to keep trying if defenders stop you, especially when you’re trying to escape in the helicopter. This can be a bit frustrating since defenders can essentially still lose after thwarting the attackers’ escape multiple times.
Bank Heist is probably not the most balanced game, but you’ll still be able to enjoy some quick action-packed matches with friends before you get a bit thieved-out. It’ll be interesting to see what the esports org has in store in future games.
